TRIP DETAILS
Our 3 day fly trips from Cairns are scheduled around optimal tides for fishing the flats. Trips are deigned with convenience for domestic and international travellers. Guests can fly into Cairns and board Aroona on the same day. We depart in the afternoon and wake up on the flats for 3 full days of fishing over 4 nights. We’ll have you back into Cairns early morning on the last day so guests can fly out with no overnight accomodation in Cairns required.
Aroona will have 3 skiffs in tow and 3 guides onboard. The mothership will anchor close to the flats for quick access to fishing straight after breakfast . There will be 2 guests per skiff/guide and the shallow flats fishing over the white sand offers amazing sight fishing all day long. Up to 10 different species can be caught in a day by one angler. Desirable Aussie flats species such as Indo Pacific permit, GT, golden trevally and milkfish can be specifically targeted all day. Our location on these 3 day trips offers some of the best permit fishing Australia has to offer with a Luxury mothership with a chef and cold beer waiting for anglers at the end of each day.
THE MOTHERSHIP
Aroona is a 70ft Outer Reef Luxury Motor Yacht that specialises in remote luxury charters on the Great Barrier Reef all year round. The vessel is designed for extended trips for a maximum of 9 guests in full 5 star comfort. Aroona spends most of the year running multi day tailored adventures out of Cairns and scheduled remote trips on the Far Northern GBR. The Aroona team are heavily involved and passionate about the conservation and preservation of the Great Barrier Reef. They’ve been a part of many coral research expeditions including Great Barrier Reef census and coral reef survey trips. The Crew are a wealth of knowledge and pride themselves on showcasing this stunning part of the planet. Aroona has spent time across the top end of Australia, into the Kimberly and is always seeking the next adventure. The low impact and selective nature of shallow water flats fishing suits the Aroona operation perfectly, each fish caught on the flats is appreciated and treated with care but If you do catch something for dinner our chef can prepare it fresh on the day.
Aroona is a luxury vessel and the crew are trained in providing everything you need for a relaxing five-star experience. There are a few different areas to enjoy a drink or a meal from the on board chef. Breakfast is generally served in the main saloon, dinner is upstairs on the fly bridge and there’s always cold beers and nibbles being served on the back deck after a day on the flats. The vessel is fully air conditioned and in the saloon there is a large flat screen TV to watch movies or share pics during travel time.

LOCATION
The Great Barrier Reef stretches for 1300km along the north east coast of Australia and is made up of 1000s of unexplored flats, tropical islands and sand cays. It has been forgotten as a fly fishing travel destination due to remote access and lack of knowledge. The last few years of exploring different areas, has revealed that it may be one of the most untouched flats fishing locations left on the planet. Very few flats out here have been waded with a fly rod in hand until now. Our guides have discovered world class saltwater fly fishing that is now on offer to venturing anglers and the fishing is truly incredible. We are excited to present exclusive 3 day trips from Cairns and extended week long trips further north with our 70ft mothership. This is the only Luxury mothership operation in Australia running dedicated fly trips to these unique locations with professional experienced guides. The crystal clear flats of the Great Barrier Reef are home to all the Australian flats icons including permit, GT and milkfish, bonefish, bumphead parrots, golden trevally and blue bastards just to name a few. There’s nothing quite like flats fishing the GBR, join us on a trip to find out for yourself.
