Flats Fishing
Species: Golden trevally, queenfish, permit, tuskfish, GTs and more.
Locations: Tropical flats fishing around islands, coastal flats and flats inside rivers.
Sight Fishing: Crystal-clear water offering great sight fishing opportunities.
Our flats fishing options are weather dependent. If it’s too windy on the day we’ll fish inside the river or estuary instead.
River & Estuary
Species: Barramundi, mangrove jack, GT, tarpon, queenfish and more.
Technique: Edge and snag fishing, surface and sinking lines. Great sight fishing options in the right conditions.
Locations: Mangrove-lined rivers, flats inside rivers, lagoons, snags and runoff drains.
Tropical Sportfisher specializes in guided fly fishing and we will work to the conditions to offer the best fishing possible.
Freshwater
Species: Jungle perch, sooty grunter and barramundi.
Technique: Dry flies, bass bugs, poppers and large hoppers.
Fitness: Easy to moderate hiking with some cooling rainforest pools.
Locations: Cairns, Port Douglas, Mission Beach.
Pick-up & Drop-off: Cairns CBD or Port Douglas.
Full Day: 6:30am – 4:30pm
Half Day: 6:30am – 12:00pm
Tinaroo Fly Fishing
Target: Giant impoundment barramundi, 1m+ fish.
Lake Tinaroo: The first ever stocked barramundi lake and famous for producing many world record barramundi.
Technique: Fishing brush flies on intermediate lines along grass edges, with sight fishing opportunities in shallow bays under the right conditions.
Sounder Tech: We use our Humminbird sounder to help locate fish.
Season: October – April (warmer months only).

Long-sleeved shirt, hat, sunblock and polarized sunglasses.
Wading boots (flats and backcountry).
Camera.
Flies, fly rod and reel outfits (talk to your guide prior to the trip).
